A group from Alpha has been volunteering once a week at Fire Station 15 for as long as anyone can remember. Their responsibility is keeping the grounds at the station looking tidy. They rake leaves, sweep the sidewalks and patio, pick up any trash they find and anything else that is needed to make it look great! When the firefighters are able to come out for a quick chat, it is always the highlight of the visit. On today’s trip,
one of the firefighters came out for a quick chat and some high fives upon arrival. Then everyone got to work on their different jobs – raking, sweeping, and picking up. They worked in teams to rake leaves into collection bins and transfer them to a trash can. By the end of the morning they had filled an entire trashcan with leaves and other debris, but not before a little adventure. Halfway through the morning, Ricardo was raking with so much vigor that the rake portion separated from the stick.
He managed to fix it though and the rest of the morning continued without any problems. The morning ended with a picture in front of the fire truck and firefighter Sid even came out to get in on the action! He was kind enough to also bring stickers, tattoos, and refrigerator magnets for everyone. The group of participants from Alpha that volunteers at the station varies from week to week but they all enjoy the experience. It’s really a win-win situation, the participants and staff
get a chance to help out the community and the firefighters get a clean station to do their important work. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing our work for many years to come.

My dad is a retired fireman and he has helped the community in so many ways and I feel proud because he saved people’s lives and I know that he takes pride in that work and I just lift his sprits up because he helps the community that I live in.
