On Friday, October 28, 2022, Alpha Resource Center will host our first-ever gala in Imagine Park at our Cathedral Oaks campus.
The gala will honor two of our amazing supporters, Bruce and Peggie Reichard. Bruce and Peggie have been the driving forces behind our new Slingshot Art Studio, and their generosity and vision have created a magnificent studio space; precisely designed for our artists with developmental disabilities. Our artists are excited to have a new and modern venue where they can refine and showcase their talents.
The gala will also highlight the impact of Alpha’s other programs with amazing firsthand success stories from participants and their families. And, of course, there will be great food, drinks, entertainment, live and silent auctions, and much more.
Bruce and Peggie Reichard met 50 years ago in the 7th grade and lived in the same neighborhood off Fairview Avenue in Goleta. They went to High School together and started dating in the 12th grade at Dos Pueblos High School. They worked together at Joclyn Electronics doing assembly line work (remember those good ‘ole days!). They also worked together at the Hamburger Habit when Bruce and his brother, Brent, bought the Original Habit in old town Goleta. It took Bruce a while to settle down and realize he wanted to marry his high school sweetheart! So finally, in 2001, they were married and started their family and the rest, as they say, is history.
Bruce and Peggie have a genuine, warm-hearted sentiment toward the special needs community. Peggie’s nephew, JC, 28, has intellectual disabilities and currently lives in one of Devereux Foundation’s Residential Living Houses and is thriving in his community.
When we started this project, one of our dreams was to have a place where JC and his friends could be a part of the Santa Barbara community. The day we heard that Slingshot would be working out of our facility, we were thrilled to know that we could be helping Alpha Resource Center with such an important project for our community. This honestly has been a labor of love to see this project from beginning to end (finally! three years later!). It has always been about helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.
